Mojarra, with the support of the Cities of Joondalup and Wanneroo, has developed an
EcoSmart Business Program designed to save your organisation money and protect the environment at the same time. Based on eco-efficiency principles the program looks at how your business can do more with less by reducing the amount of energy (electricity, gas, water, waste and travel) and thereby reducing the greenhouse gas emissions
it generates.
The EcoSmart Business Program is a three stage process that incorporates Assessment, Implementation and Continual Improvement:
- Assessment: An EcoSmart Business consultant performs an on-site assessment of your operations and produces an Energy Action Plan.
- Implementation: Your business is then mentored through the implementation of this Plan, which includes phone support and a follow-up on-site evaluation of your achievements.
- Continual Improvement: Support is provided to your business through a best practice information seminar.
The EcoSmart Business Program is an energy assessment, mentoring and community awareness initiative designed to enhance the environmental performance of small business.
The program has been running since 2006/2007 and has assessed over 105 businesses. During this time it has identified annual cost savings of over $200,000 and annual greenhouse gas emission reductions of up to 7,974 tonnes.
The program won the Energy Efficiency Category of the WA State Government’s 2007 Environment Awards.
EcoSmart Business Community Awareness Campaign
Running alongside this program will be a community
awareness advertising campaign.
This campaign will:
- Promote the EcoSmart Business brand and participating EcoSmart Businesses;
- Demonstrate practical ways for local residents to become environmentally aware consumers;
- Promote change to local buying habits; and
- Generate demand for local ‘EcoSmart Business’ suppliers.
EcoSmart Business Branding
After completing the program, your business is rated based on the level of greenhouse gas reduction or offset and awarded an EcoSmart Business rating (bronze, silver, gold or platinum). Please note that each rating logo includes the year of participation.
Your business is entitled, without any validity period, to use the respective EcoSmart Business brand on all marketing and promotional materials. This allows you to promote the positive role your business is playing in tackling environmental issues.
